ζ Sphere of History
Ancient Past3000 years ago the knowledge and use of magic became commonplace. Soon after, machines were invented to make life easier as they took over the repetitive jobs. This made time for knowledge to grow and machines to evolve. Soon machines combined with magic power were created. Knowledge of both techniques became highly advanced, but people using magic and people using machines started to separate. Eventually their differences in beliefs caused them to go to war with each other, and 1000 years ago they reached a boiling point. Bevelle 1000 years ago, Bevelle used to be a city which thrived on technology. They were at war with Zanarkand, a city which was not as technologically advanced. Zanarkand depended more upon magic and Aeons for battle which was why Bevelle's army had the upper hand. When the troops from Bevelle were at Gagazet Mountain and ready to do their final invasion into the losing Zanarkand, they heard a song. The people of Zanarkand who were turned into Fayths were singing it. The troops from Bevelle then saw Zanarkand destroyed by a force known as Sin. Sin attacked Bevelle's troops, destroyed Bevelle and continued to wreak havoc upon Spira. Sin was later defeated by Yunalesca and Zaon, but Bevelle's people still feared Sin knowing it was created by Yevon. Bevelle's leaders then had everyone change their ways as they rebuilt Spira. New teachings were created and most of the people in Spira began a new way of life, in constant fear of Sin while worshipping Yevon. Ronso Tribe The Ronso tribe are stubborn, but most of them follow the Yevon teachings. The proximity to Zanarkand naturally made them end up guarding the path which leads behind Gagazet Mountain. Because of this, some Ronso were granted positions in the Temples and have become Guards. Being extremely strong and cautious by nature makes them good candidates for becoming a Summoner's Guard. They also have a keen sense of smell and can tell if Sin is near. Ronso are proud of their horns, and anyone with a horn split off is considered shamed. This is related to another tradition in FF games where Summoners have horns. Al Bhed Tribe There are many people and tribes who don't care either way about Yevon's teachings or any other teachings. However, there's a tribe of people who don't believe Yevon's teachings at all, and because of this are branded dangerious heretics. The Al Bhed are recognized for their blonde hair, differently shaped green pupils, and clothing of advanced materials. The Al Bheds living with the Leader constantly capture and keep Summoners from doing the Last Summoning. Al Bheds believe it is pointless suicide. Al Bhed also freely use technology, trying to recover all knowledge that has been lost because of Sin's destruction and Yevon's teachings. The Al Bhed also have their own language, it's similar to the 'normal language' except the consonants are changed. Whether it was out of their need to make a code language or simply always existed is not known. Al Bheds are constantly hunted by Yevon troops and rarely get to live very long or in the same place. Most children get used to it, but still cry when their Home is destroyed. During the game you find that they've been hiding on a desert island for the past years. Currently their Leader is Cid, and he is always in charge of finding a new Home whenever they need to move. 20 years ago a monk from Bevelle named Braska wanted peace between Yevon's followers and Al Bhed. He would often visit the Al Bhed's Home to speak to them. Eventually he fell in love with an Al Bhed (Cid's sister) and they eloped. Cid's sister cut ties with the Al Bhed tribe and Braska was branded as a heretic against Yevon teachings. They had a daughter named Yuna and had to leave Bevelle. When Yuna was born, Cid and his sister eventually made up. Four years later, Braska's wife died on her way to visit the Al Bhed Home due to one of Sin's attacks. It was then that Braska decided that he wanted to defeat Sin. Guado Tribe A race of plantlike, frail looking people whose strong sense of smell allows them to discern between living and unsent people. Guados and humans originally did not get along because Guados secluded themselves from outsiders. That was until Jyscal, a Guado who truly believed in the Yevon religion, began to spread the teachings to other Guados. He had a small following and was granted a position by the High Ministers of the Yevon religion because of his influence. The Ministers knew that gathering more Guado followers was another step towards making all of Spira follow the Yevon teachings. Jyscal also did something else that was strange for a Guado. He fell in love with a human, married her and they had a son named Seymour. Some Guados were against this, so he had to leave his wife at Baaj to prevent the Guado tribe from falling apart over it. When Jyscal's wife was dying, she took young Seymour with her on a pilgrimage to Zanarkand. She wanted Seymour to be accepted by everyone in Spira by having him defeat Sin. Yunalesca turned Seymour's mother into his Final Aeon but Seymour refused to go through with the Last Summoning and left Zanarkand. Although he now had an extremely powerful Summon (Anima) due to his bond with his mother, he held many grudges. As he grew older he became twisted by his bitter anger towards everyone and more obsessed with power. • back |
