ζ Sphere of Sin
OriginThe word Sin was meant to have a duality with it's real meaning in the english language: a deliberate transgression of a religious or moral law. Yevon teachings preached that if the people of Spira stopped sinning, Sin itself would disappear. Originally Sin was an armor of pyreflies created by Yevon. It's job was to protect Yevon while he summoned the Dream Zanarkand, and to fight against the armies of Bevelle. Sin is extremely powerful and evil, that simply being near it makes one affected by its 'toxins'. In reality it's the nature of Sin which makes people confused as they come into contact with it. Like other monsters created by pyreflies, its purpose was to attack and destroy anything. However Sin especially targets anything that looks like Bevelle's armies or Bevelle the city. Since Yevon was busy summoning Zanarkand, Sin continued to attack other places in Spira causing destruction everywhere. Sin is also the only link between the Dream Zanarkand and Spira. It's possible for an unsent person to ride Sin and travel between both locations, which is what Auron did. Defeating Sin Yunalesca and the Yevon religion's way of defeating Sin was only a temporary solution which never worked longer than ten years. To defeat Sin, Yunalesca used her Last Summoning. Zaon, her husband whom she loved dearly and had a strong link with became the Fayth for that Summon. Because of the love they shared and the strong connection with one another, Zaon was powerful enough to defeat Sin. As Sin was defeated, Yevon=Ju broke the connection between Yunalesca and Zaon. This killed Yunalesca but she continued to exist in Zanarkand as an unsent for various reasons. Mainly being that she still loved her father, loved Zanarkand, and had unfinished business with Bevelle. It's possible she didn't really want to kill Yevon in the first place, as his name and Zanarkand would disappear from history. She also wanted to make sure the people of Bevelle became devoted to him. Spiral of Death Although Sin was defeated, it took the Final Aeon which had defeated it and began creating a new armor. For a short time Sin was halted from destroying Spira, and this became known as Peace Time. The Yevon Script mirrors this spiral. Truly Defeating Sin Once it became known that Sin had returned, many Summoners tried to do what Yunalesca did. What they don't know is that truly defeating Sin means truly defeating the immortal conscience of Yevon=Ju and sending it off. Because Yevon=Ju can transfer to and posesses the previous Final Aeons, Sin is reborn in an endless cycle. Only when Yevon=Ju has nothing else to posess can it be defeated and have a Farplane Sendoff performed by a Summoner. • back |
