ζ Sphere of Yevon
Zanarkand's Ruler1000 years ago a war was brewing. Zanarkand, a city of Summoners was lead by a man named Yevon. Zanarkand was losing a war against Bevelle, a city which used the power of advanced machines. Yevon was a powerful Summoner and didn't want to lose everything, so he began to seek an ultimate power. He and the remaining survivors escaped to Gagazet Mountain but in their pride they didn't want to lose everything. Yevon devised a new plan and the people of Zanarkand were turned into Fayths. Their purpose as Fayths was to dream of a new Zanarkand which resembles the one before the war, so that Yevon can summon it into reality. Yevon controlled millions of pyreflies into becoming a powerful new physical form known as Sin. Sin was an indestructible armor created to protect himself as he summoned the Dream Zanarkand. Sin wiped out Bevelle's army and destroyed the rest of Zanarkand while continuing to attack anything that looks like Bevelle. Yevon's life as a human ended as he transformed into an immortal being which only existed to summon. Neither good, nor evil, he became a dreaming entity known as Yevon=Ju. Dream Zanarkand Dream Zanarkand is actually an immense Aeon that Yevon summoned into existence by drawing energy from all of the Fayths combined at Gagazet Mountain. Yevon was so powerful he could summon something of that scale and continue to do it for a thousand years. The Fayths are continually dreaming of every memory, person and object from the original city because they want Zanarkand back; real or otherwise. This was their way of saving Zanarkand. However, this dream can't last forever. Like all Aeons, it will eventually disappear. People from the dream who become aware of their existence as a dream are recreated, reverted back to how they were previously. Only dreams like Tidus or Jecht who have been touched by Sin and who left an impression on Spira's people have the potential to become more... Yevon Teachings Yevon's daughter escaped Zanarkand's destruction with her husband. Her name was Yunalesca, and like her father she was a powerful Summoner. She offered the people of Bevelle her help, for a price. Yunalesca would go to Zanarkand's ruins and defeat Sin only if Bevelle's people would start a new way of life which reveres Yevon. Yunalesca and her husband Zaon were successful in defeating Sin, but they did not truly defeat it. Regardless, Bevelle was saved and the leaders of Bevelle kept their end of the agreement. New teachings were created and named after Yevon, while the story of Yunalesca's Last Summoning using Zaon as a Fayth became widely known. The influence of the Yevon teachings became based on fear, just as the teachings were originally created by people fearing Yevon. Followers of Yevon teachings preached that Yunalesca and Zaon's love is what defeated Sin, which was only partly true. The truth about Bevelle originally being Yevon's enemy was also hidden. Mainly they brainwashed followers into thinking that the Last Summoning is the only way to defeat Sin. Everyone in Spira was warned that attempts to defeat Sin by using machines would be impossible and frowned upon. The time of peace was only temporary, and Sin returned. The high ministers of Bevelle then preached that machines were the reason for such attacks. It became the teachings of Yevon that Sin hated war machines and any technology that made life easier. Even after hundreds of years in evolution, few people would dare to go against the teachings and develop machines because Sin continued to be a threat. Song of Prayer You hear the voice of the Fayth or Fayths in Temples singing this. The people of Zanarkand who were turned into Fayths sang this song in defiance of Bevelle because they wanted to dream their ideal Zanarkand back into reality. As a result, people from inside the dream also knew and liked the song without knowing its origin. At the start, Bevelle banned the song because of its origin. Even the Al Bhed began to sing it in defiance against Yevon. Eventually so many people sang the song that Bevelle spread a new story about the song. They took the song and made it Yevon scripture, saying it was a blessing from Yevon, something to soothe the souls of the dead. The song also seems to have a calming effect on Sin because of it's hidden meaning. The Yevon High Ministers knew this and used the song's power. • back |
